Henry Update

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Henry has become pretty independent (in some ways).  He goes outside by himself, and sometimes he actually doesn’t want us to come near when he’s doing something.  Today we were at the park in Ely, and he finally decided he could slide by himself.  I was playing with him and he wanted to go do the slides. so I followed.  He turned around and said DADDY followed by a two handed “stay there” gesture.  I obeyed his order, but a few seconds later, he did it again, just so I really knew who was boss.

He has gotten really good at computer games.  It’s really fun to watch him play because I’m always amazed by what he can accomplish in them.  I often think something will be over his head, but he does it.  However, sometimes he does need a bit of help, so every now and then I’ll hear him call out “DADDY!  ep.  ep.”  His favorite game is a Wow Wow Wubbzy one where you build robots.  He’s really into robots now, and he likes to imitate them (he does a little robot hand movement and says “beep beep boop”).  Yesterday he wanted to play the game and he told me so by doing it.  I didn’t know how to get to the game, so I just got him onto the Wubbzy website thinking that would be good enough and he’d find something else to do there.  Within about 2 minutes he had found the robot game.

Today he made a very neat little symmetrical building out of Legos.  His motor skills have really improved lately, and he’s much more able to build with legos, or lay them out straight, and that sort of thing.

He’s also very funny!  In the past week or two he has done some really funny things, in a way that shows that it was intentional.  I wish I could remember some of them.  When he does it, he usually laughs at his own little joke, but not in a silly fake way that kids often do.  He really finds it amusing.

Another cute thing he does is to add “mama” and “daddy” at the end of things.  For instance, if Emily asks him to go get something, he’ll say “okay mama” and then when he brings it, he says “here mama”.

Henry Makes An H

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Sorry for the poor audio.  I had my finger over the mic.  He made that H and then said to Emily “Me!  ha  ha  ha”.  That’s the first time he has made a letter.  Delia also made an H first.  I think Emily said she used some apple and cheese.
